Hi,
First verify that the system Date is correct. Is that the CD key that came with your computer (has it been activated on another computer?). Is it a legitimate CD Key?

Use the KeyFinder Software to retrieve your CD Key, Download from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=keyfinder&filename=keyfinder.2.0.1.zip&use_mirror=osdn

Then make sure it is the same as the one on your CD. Then if you are sure that it is the original CD that came with your computer.
Click here if you need to change it: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-a-Windows-XP-Product-Key or use the Microsoft's tool: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/XPPkuinst.aspx?displaylang=en&sGuid=6f316783-9420-4657-85f9-03a56f2fd95d

Give us more info and we may be able to help even more!

Have you checked the date on your BIOS? (very important!)
When windows starts, do you get a Microsoft pop-up that tell you that your version of windows is not Genuine?

i should probably run fast in the opposite direction. I am just very skeptical and wondering how it is that ebay sellers are able to sell window xp prof so cheap? Some of these sellers seem to have decent ratings so they do seem to work but are they legal? I really need windows xp prof and microsoft office professional 2007 but running low on funds. I just dont want to waste my money only to find out the hard way later? Does anyone know where i can get a legitimate deal?

All you need to do is... call the microsoft number for your area... and follow instructions... they will give you new set... but everytime you redo windows xp in the future you'll have to go thru this again.
