Dear Steve,
Antivirus security does not allow simple uninstall from Windows Control Panel (as a safety precaution). Thus you have to download their removal tool to fully uninstall their antivirus.
Simply follow the link provided, download and run their program.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

When uninstall Norton it is important that you turn off all protection first. If you don't then you can mess up the uninstall. Did you have a full version of Norton or one that came with the google pack. If it came with the google pack I think you have to uninstall it that way. Make sure all Norton protection is off. Go to start, programs, Norton. then use the Norton uninstall option there. If that does not work. Google Norton removal tool and go to the Norton link that gives you the removal tool. Download and run the tool this will remove all of Norton from your computer.

My personal experience with Norton Antivirus has been mostly positive. However, each successive version seems to incorporate more functionality but it gets slower and slower. Although I wrote an article on how to speed up the windows boot process, one of the best ways always is to uninstall Norton and install a free antivirus product. I've also experienced situations where internet access is completely shut down and many times uninstalling all of the Norton Antivirus or firewall products on the computer fixes
this issue.
Follow the instructions below to safely remove Norton and Symantec security products including their antivirus and firewall from your computer

| I exactly don't know the reason for not being able to uninstall it . but i prefer not to use Norton. Its better you prefer Avast or Kaspersky, even NOD32 is a good one than Norton i think. |

| All you have to do is Download Perfect Uninstaller. It will forcibly remove any Norton Corporate Edition without Password COMPLETELY! Once that's all done and any remnant of Norton has been totally removed, you can get on with adding your favorite Antivirus Software. |

Norton Virus is a kind of PC scanning software so it will scan turn by turn when something comes very newly to your computer.

To fully uninstall Norton Antivirus, you have to follow these simple steps-
1. Click on Start | Settings | Control Panel
2. In the control panel double-click on Add / Remove Programs
3. Look through the list of installed programs for any item that says either "Norton" or "Symantec" or "LiveUpdate". (for example "Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition" or "Norton AntiVirus 2000")
4. For each "Norton", "Symantec", or "LiveUpdate" item, select the item and click Add / Remove. Follow the instructions, and click Yes or Yes to all when prompted.
When you are done there should be no items in the list that say "Norton", "Symantec", or "LiveUpdate".
5. Click OK to close the Add / Remove Programs window.
6. Reboot your computer if it hasn't already automatically rebooted.
7. Delete the c:\Program Files\Symantec AntiVirus (or c:\Program Files\Norton) folder.
8. Delete the c:\Program Files\Symantec folder.
9. Delete the c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared folder. |
