| I was trying to reinstall microsoft windows XP using a friends XP cd because I bought my computer used and without the original cd. The problem occured when I was supposed to enter the product code and found out that my friend lost his code. Now my computer starts up and wants to go right back to where it was in the reinstallation process. I cannot get it to stop. What might I do? |

Do you have a sticker with your "licence product key" somewhere on your used computer? if yes, it will have the version of Windows (XP Home, XP Pro, Windows 2000, Windows ME... written on it), as well as the product key for you to reinstall.
Unfortunately, by reinstalling windows you have erased your previous windows installation and you need to get a key.
Since we cannot recommend you getting a cracked version of windows, you just might have to purchase a new windows license.
However, I can recommend you to install Ubuntu for free ( http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download ) which is an excellent operating system. You just need to get used to it and then you will never go back to windows!

| Thanks for the answer. I have a product code under the computer but it is worn and unreadable. How can I get the Ubuntu if I cannot get online. My computer keeps trying to reinstall windows and goes to the same screen everytime. Can I download Ubuntu onto a flash drive and get it onto my computer some way? Thanks again for the reply. |

Yes it will fit most USB keys and you can use that to install Ubuntu on your system. However I would recommend installing it (burn the downloaded image) using a CD. Of course, you will have to download it from another computer that has internet access (nowadays widely available!).
Cheers

You will be able to reinstall
but will need the acer drivers disc as well
just start computer up
as normal
and open the cd drive
then shut the computer down
now put the vista disc in drive shut the drawer and switch the computer back on again and follow the instructions
