Hi Guys...newbie here, and not techy experienced! My desktop has developed a strange habit of shutting down...but only when I'm gaming. Otherwise it runs like a dream even on heavy programs like Photoshop. My tower shuts down but the power supply is still on at my keyboard. If I unplug my tower from the mains and then plug it right back in it will start up and run happily again no sweat....until I play a game. It's not overclocked or anything advanced. System spec is Pentium 4/3.4 GHz/1 GB RAM/GeCube Radeon X1300/512 MB/CD + DVD RW. I have had to replace the PSU when the original one went bang, but I got the same spec (I think). Many thanks, in advance for any help/advice/guidance.

Sounds like an issue with your video card.
To test your graphic card go to futuremark.com download their 3DMark®06 free version, run the full 3D test.

You can also try to install an updated driver for your video card (or if you already have the most up to date downgrade to one or 2 release down). Make sure You have DirectX9.0c installed (very stable).

You should also check your "system event log", it can give you an idea about what service is failing during the games!

Cheers,

Fonz

Yeah Fonz is right, but might be an electrical problem also. Are you sure that your power supply works fine? (maybe the PS isn't fuctioning too good when the videocard is asking for 'power', thats why the pc is working when you are not gaming, maybe your ps isn't the right configuration, voltage...etc) your home electric system is working how it should?

good luck

That's all in your will power man. I play games all the time myself but I also work and have a family. Those things take preference before gaming for me. So if you have a family of your own, spend time with them. Or maybe take your mom out to eat once and a while. It really helps with relationships. Don't be a fool and start college with the mind set of wanting to play games. I regretted it and wish I spent more time on school. I know now and speak from experience. Though you never know, your love for games can turn into a great career for you in the future.
