I have a HP Pavilion vd6000 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I have only had computer for 1 year. Computer worked fine one day, the nextday when I turned it on, it went crazy. At first I was able to see the intel symbol at startup and was able to use f function keys, system recovery started up but was not able to complete process. I powered computer off, then up and I got a blue screen with the following stop error: "STOP: 0000218 Registry File Failure. The registry can not load the hive(file): \System Root\System 32\config\components or ot's log or alternate. It is corupt, absent or not writable." I turned the computer off, then on and now the screen is blank and black, shows no symbols or anything when powered on, but the power indicator light and the fan is on. Computer did make a unusual sound at first but it stopped making that sound. Computer had operating system already loaded I have no disks. Backup and recovery disks that I made, per manufact. sugession are not working for some reason. I have no idea what's going on.

I'm hoping that your computer actually passes the POST (meaning that your motherboard is OK) and then Windows cannot load.
If you are able to access the recovery partition, try again to recover Windows.
If not, you have to test your computer hardware. The easiest way is to get yourself a bootable CD (UBCD) and try to boot off of it, and do a full hard drive test.
The STOP: 0000218 Registry File Failure could be caused by a defective hard drive or simply a corrupted windows partition, but in most cases the recovery partition is still intact!
