Hello guys,
I would like to do my banking online but I am afraid that someone may steal my account number and password. Do you have an antivirus that you can guarantee that will clean my system so that i can do these transactions online.
Thank you for any help.

Hi J. Carout,
The best way to avoid all these viruses and spywares is to use linux, furthermore we recommend to use a web browser that is not very common and finally to use a bootable version of linux so that everytime you use it, you have a fresh, clean computer!
I don't think that you need more details than that (please if you do, feel free to let me know).
So follow this link http://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/knoppix/
click on the file KNOPPIX_V5.1.1CD-2007-01-04-EN.iso
your computer should start the download of the file (it may take a long time, anywhere between a few hours to a day or so, depending on your internet speed).
Once the download completed, click on the file and burn the image on a CD.
Then insert the CD into your CD player and restart your computer.
(if windows starts, you need to go and change the boot sequence so you computer can load from your CD, for more help on changing your boot sequence: http://www.fixingmycomputer.com/modifying-boot-sequence.html )
This CD does not install linux on your computer, it remains on the CD
Once your computer has restarted, you should have a different screen that prompts to Press Enter (do it!) then Linux will load on your computer, will automatically open a web browser (Konqueror), type your www address (or www.google.com) and feel fully secured to do any transaction there.
I cannot think of any safer way of doing transactions on the web!
For more info on what the CD is please visit: http://www.knoppix.org/ |

It is not because you have not had a problem yet that you will not have a problem in the future.
By experience, I can tell you that having a firewall, "good" antivirus and antispyware is not enough to shield you reliably from internet threats. By the way, using that bootable Linux CD does not guaranty anything either, it simply reduces the chances of using an infected computer to do banking or other sensitive online transaction. The reason why the bootable CD is a good alternative is that you have a clean operating system everytime you use it, furthermore Linux does not suffer from viruses (compared to windows) and that Konkeror (Knoppix default browser) is not a focus for hackers either. Thus a low, low chance of being the target of a virus!
All what we are trying to do is present alternatives which in our opinion will increase internet security/reliability for the users, to allow them to do things like online banking, buy using credit cards... with peace of mind.
Furthermore, I can tell you that I have seen many infected computers with a good protection (firewall, antivirus & antispyware), with regular updates and from industry leaders such as Norton and MacAfee.
We only present facts and offer choices, it is still up to you (the user) to make his choice.

Yes, Paypal needs to know that you own the bank account you are linking to since you will be able to transfer money to your paypal account from your bank account and vice-versa.

If you have had trouble with your bank, late fees, monthly account fees, bounced checks you may be considering switching banks. Before you make the decision to switch you need to determine what caused the problem, and if it was your bank’s fault or your fault. If it was your fault, you need to change your behavior or it will happen again at your new bank.
If you are charged a monthly service fee you may want to consider changing banks. Before you do this, you should call your bank and see if they offer an account without the service. You may have an account with a high minimum balance requirement and switching to an account with a lower minimum balance requirement can actually save you money. You may not get free money orders or travelers cheques, but do you really use them enough to warrant paying the service fee? Additionally see if your bank will waive the fee if you have direct deposit to your account. If this is the case, you may want to see if your employer is willing to do that for you.
If you have gotten into a cycle of returned items or being overdrawn, you may want to change banks to make the mess go away, but that will not solve the problem. You need to become more responsible with tracking your spending and using your debit card. You will still need to clean up the mess at your current bank before you open another account or you risk being reported to ChexSystems.
