I have a Gateway FX6000 series that I bought about 18 months ago (spring of '09). When I tried to start it up the other day, nothing. No sounds, no fan movement. The power had been out at my home when I was at work and even though I have a surge protector I fear something may have happened.

So I bought a replacement power supply. The original was 450W, the new one is 500W. I hooked it up and turned it on. I get a message on the monitor saying, in red text, "You have not connected the power cable to video card".

Nothing further. Any suggestions?

Someone I know suggested that perhaps I can't use any power supply, that I have to buy one from Gateway (the replacement I bought at Best Buy). Any truth to that?
