... my friend was having difficulties with Firefox after it updated, so he uninstalled it. When he went to use Explorer, it had been uninstalled also.
"My problem is I can't get on a browser to download another browser. I'd look up how to fix this my-self but alas...no browser."

Confused Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

Often the fact that Internet Explorer does not work and seems that it has been "uninstalled" is sign of more serious problems. Because explorer is the core file manager in windows!!!
The best way is to make a repair installation of windows, you can follow this link for complete instructions http://www.fixingmycomputer.com/Windows-XP-recovery/repair-windows-xp.html

Otherwise, you can use the command prompt to download a new copy of firefox or any other browsers.
Click on Start, click on Run, type CMD and the command prompt window should open.
The bottom line will tell you where you file will be downloaded (C:\Documents and Settings\YourName)
Then type: ftp
Press Enter
Then type: open releases.mozilla.org
Press Enter
You will be asked for a user name, then type: anonymous
Press Enter
You will be asked for a password, then type: abcd
Press Enter
Then type: cd pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.7/win32/en-US/
Press Enter
Then type: get "Firefox Setup 2.0.0.7.exe"
Press Enter
Wait until file has been downloaded, then you can retrieve it and install it!

Good luck!
Press Enter

Try to reinstall your browsers. You can also try registry edit to reset the internet domains.

Open notepad on Desktop
Copy and paste following:
REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Ranges]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\EscDomains]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\EscDomains]

Give file name as "fixme.reg"
Save it as 'All files'
Then double click on it and Click yes to merge the information.
Try to open browser.
