Hi,
I have a Toshiba Tablet PC that I use for graphic design. Lately, I have started having problems with it, as it shuts down suddenly after 10 or 15 minutes. However, I have found out that when running on batteries, it will go all the way until I have no more batteries (2hrs). So I figured that the AC power supply was defective, thus went and bought a new one. But amazingly I still have the same problem (shuts down after 10 to 15 minutes when power cord is connected)
Do you guys think that the new power supply is defective or ??? |

Hello Talis,
The way you described your problem, it seems that you computer is overheating (cpu heatsink probably) and that the computer shuts down to prevent damages.
The reason why on batteries, you are able to use it continuously is that Toshiba has a utility that greatly reduces power usage (thus less heating) when on batteries. I personally think that both the old AC adapter and the new one are fine.
Now, your problem could simply be that your heatsink is over clogged with dust and cleaning it would do. Check it out and let us know if you need more help.
Good luck! |

1.dead powerbutton board
2. dead motherboard
3. dead P/S
4. dead CMOS battery.
A bad CMOS battery doesn't usually keep your computer from powering on, you usually get a bad checksum error and can't boot into the O/S. It has happened before though that a computer won't power on and it turned out to be the CMOS battery.

Have you priced how much it will cost to get a replacement power supply for your laptop? I'm sure you can find one online from an online auction if you do a search for one. Since the laptop is a few years old, you should be able to find an affordable replacement power supply.
