Hi everyone,
I'm new to posting on forums so please bear with me.
I have a problen with a LAN adapter on a computer that I am trying to repair for a friend. It is recognised by windows a being a SiS 900-Based Fast Ethernet Adapter. But when I plug an ethernet cable into it, it is not recognised by the adapter.
I have checked the bios, I have updated the drivers for the adapter, I can get a connection to my router via a wireless usb adapter and everything else with the computer seems to be fine.
Any further information anyone needs in order to help diagnose the problem just ask. I have a feeling that the adapter is fried but need to ensure that I have explored every avenue first.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can give. |

Hi,
Split your the problem in two parts: the network cable/router/modem on one side, then your computer on the other.
So test the cable/router/modem with an other computer to make sure that you do not have a problem there. If you are totally sure about this part then go to the computer.
When you connect your ethernet cable (windows should connect automatically) you should have the light on your adapter turn green. Also go to Start, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, Network Connections to see the status of your connection.
You can also try to uninstall the driver and reinstall it, try different drivers (I mean older versions or newer versions available on manufacturer's website).
Also keep in mind that these ethernet adapters can malfunction too (sometime a surge in your current is enough), so buying another one might be an option (it is very cheep).
Good luck, and let us know how far you got.

Hi,
Thanks for your response,
I've tried the router side on my own computer so there is no problems with that side. I'm not getting any lights on the adapter itself, and having fried an old motherboard by not surge protecting my modem in a thunderstorm, I'm assuming it's blown.
Thank you for your response again. |

1. From the Wii's main menu, select the Wii icon along the bottom left of the screen.
2. Select "Wii Settings".
3. Click the left arrow to get to Wii System Settings 3
4. Choose "Wii System Update"
5. Choose "Yes" to connect to the internet and perform a Wii system update.
