Hi Antoine,
It really depends what you want to do with your computer. I assume you are looking for a windows XP replacement.
There are many different linux packages such as Mandriva, Xandros, Ubuntu,...

Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you can't afford it, there is centOS (same thing minus support an proprietary stuff).
RHEL uses SE Linux...That + a Firewall with properly configured IP tables is about as secure as your will ever get. SE Linux (security enhanced linux) is the military standard.

I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 8 Main Edition which is built upon the outstanding Ubuntu 9.10 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled
